It is time for an update. I am currently working my tooshy off (haha, I wish) doing my MSW program, which I DID get into (score!). When I am not being Grad Student Barbie, uh... I mean doing student things, I am busy playing with Bubba to appease my guilt at being an absent mom.
Speaking of Bubba, did you know his first word, other than mama, of course, was "owl"? Yes. My boy loves owls and all things owlish. He has added "haddy (or daddy)" and "hot" and "hat" and "that" and "nana (banana)" to the list as well. He is currently working on "ga-mah (grandma)" and "ai-ee (Bailey, the dog)". He has also said "rarah" a couple of times when in the presence of his aunt.
I love this owl picture because the owl is looking at me like, "really?". And speaking again of my son's love of owls, for this year's MSW Christmas party Richard and I used our fast white-elephant ninja skills to snag Bubba an owl made completely of tiny sea shells and two googly eyes. He loves it and we have displayed in proudly in his room. This is so that we can remember our prowess at gift ninja-ing as well as to memorialize the fact that someone actually made something so freaking weird. But again, he loves it, and parents will do anything for their kids (even if it means angering your cohorts to get seashells and googly eyes).
Since basically only family reads this anyway, I feel justified in reporting on my adorable son. So there (see owl picture for emphasis).
In other news, I am giving up chocolate for these next four months as part of a course requirement. What course would ask a stressed out student to give up her no. 1 emotional crutch, you ask? My Substance Abuse class, of course! Because when you are a social worker you get to take awesome classes like substance abuse (which despite the name does not mean you get to abuse substances). I am actually super excited about this. It is proving to be a thoroughly interesting class. I will let you know how the giving up chocolate goes. Whoever "you" are. Huh. I wonder who actually reads this anyway?

Ooh, ooh, I do! Pick me! Me! Me! :P
I read it Rena!!!
I learned some really interesting things I had never known about addiction from a book I recently read called "Change Anything". I was especially interested by the stuff about how in an addiction, the chemicals in the brain center around the wanting, not the enjoyment. I find that this is exactly reflected in my feelings toward food WAY too often. Thus, I'm really, really curious about what you will learn in this class.
I do. Do you know how hard captcha is from a phone?
Zanne- I totally pick you! (Though that makes you sound like a pimple, which you definitely are not).
KJH - Actually, starting this class has made me wonder if I am an actual food addict. I got some books from the library about it so I can determine if I am a food addict or just a foodie. If you want the titles let me know and I'll share what I find out.
Greg - I don't even know what captcha is (hides head in shame). But I assume that my blog uses it and makes it hard for your phone. Thanks for going to the effort.
